Terrific Thursdays!

December 1, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Decatur has long billed itself as “Your Mallternative.” Their goal is to get you to shop local & stay away from those pesky big box stores.
Every year, starting the 1st Thurs in November & running through Christmas, they have Terrific Thursdays. All the local businesses group together, stay open late, serve snacks & beverages & run special discounts. It is really quite festive!
This Thursday will be super terrific as they are lighting the Decatur Christmas tree that sits atop Little Shop of Stories. The choir from Glenwood Academy will be singing carols (including a special little girl belonging to yours truly, she will be the cutest one. :)), there will be hot chocolate, sweets & you might even spy a jolly man in a red suit! You should join us! Festivities start at 7pm!

Also, here is a list of some of my favorite Decatur stores & the special discounts they are offering:

Homegrown Decatur Such a great store offering handmade items from artists that live & work in Decatur. They are offering 10% off all handbags & wallets.

Little Shop of Stories A visit to D’town Decatur would not be complete without a visit to this adorable indie bookstore. And it is not just for kids! There are lots of books for grown ups too!

Sawicki’s Oh! One of may favorite little markets. You can get a lovely lunch or dinner there. Organic eggs & dairy, grass fed beef. It is what I always imagine the little markets in New York are like.

Those are really just a few…I could go on & on. But come out tomorrow night & I can tell you more!
